Repentance I. Introduction A. The need is shown often in Scripture B. Repentance is the Greek word metanoeo, which means literally "to percieve afterwards;" the understanding that one has sinned and that it is not good in the eyes of God; furthermore, the meaning also signifies a "change of one's mind or purpose" II. What Repentance Is A. Repentance is the realization that one is in sin, and that one needs to change his ways B. Seen as necessary in Acts 3:19, 26:20 C. Done originally before baptism- Acts 2:38 D. Must be done continually for sins, 1 John 1:9, the churches of Ephesus, Sardis, and Laodicea, Rev. 2-3 III. Why Repent? A. Shows the correct attitude towards sin: penitence (Luke 18:10-14) B. Shows obedience to God, not sin (Romans 6:16-18) C. Since sins must be repented for, unrepented sins leave an individual in sin, hence, condemned (Romans 6:23) IV. Conclusion A. Repentance is necessary for salvation B. Without repentance, the heart cannot be right with God C. if you have never repented of your sins, please come to the front and do so now.
