Brethren,

Greetings.

Peace, mercy, and grace be with you all from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.

Fall is finally in the air, and the temperature is cooling down. Outdoors activities are beginning to lessen, and people are settling into a cold weather schedule.

Working with the Brethren

September has been good for working with the brethren; we had some opportunities to get together during the gospel meeting and at other times.

Lessons and Classes

I have continued to spend time with the morning lessons highlighting various texts and trying to provide relevant applications today. Texts discussed include Luke 16:19-31, Luke 18:1-8, and Isaiah 6:9-10 and New Testament quotations of Isaiah's prophecy. The evening lessons are continuing down the theme of understanding the Bible; we spent some time talking about differences among Bible versions and have moved on to speak of how to study and interpret the Bible. The lessons, as always, are available in outline and mp3 form on the website.

The Sunday morning young people's class has now begun Wendell Winkler's Studying Sin Seriously, which will hopefully highlight not just particular sins but also the nature of sin and why sin is so terrible. Despite low participation in the Bible reading program, we are persevering, and are now reading in Romans.

The divided men's and women's classes continue to focus on parenting, using God's Plan for Parenting, edited by Kevin Maxey, as a guide for the class.

The Tuesday night Bible studies at our house have gotten greater interest since we have begun going over Scriptures to use when speaking with others about the faith. We hope that we will continue to have success with this study.

Evangelism

We continue to mail out the fourth week bulletin every month to members of the community along with the website and other evangelism programs. This month saw the beginning of a door knocking program; on a Saturday morning a few of us went and knocked on about 140 doors and handed out material about the gospel meeting and the church. We have not seen any visitors yet, but did see some people reading the material. We hope to continue the program on a monthly basis in view of knocking every door in Norwalk.

Gospel Meeting

We had a great gospel meeting in the middle of the month with Dan Peters of Rockford, Illinois, who provided excellent and relevant lessons. We enjoyed having many visitors; local congregations provided great support for our meeting, and we also had a few visitors from the community. Most of the lessons are available on our website in mp3 form if any are interested.

Current Studies

  1. Cindy. Cindy has been doing very well over the past month, and we continue to work to strengthen her.

  2. Ben and Katie. With the school year having begun, Katie has found it somewhat difficult to juggle all of the aspects of their schedule. We continue to try to encourage them.

Support

I would like to thank all of you for your participation in the work here in Norwalk, either through your prayers or through encouraging me or through financial support. I would like to solicit your continual prayers so that the work here may prosper.

May the peace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with your spirits.
